What
YOAM is a
week to focus on building and deepening your relationship with God and others.
You will be part of a small team of youth and adults who work, serve, learn, and
play together no matter where they are: at our “home base,” on various work
sites, or while enjoying local sights. Nightly gatherings with a spiritual focus
include singing, teaching, sharing and individual time for reflection.
Regarding mission work, we will follow two paths. One is to
work with the local Habitat for Humanity group on a construction project. We
will also help Calumet area residents who do not qualify for assistance from
other service organizations and do not have family to come to their aid. Work on
important and necessary projects relating to basic home and yard upkeep:
plumbing, dry walling, painting and staining, insulating, washing windows,
making household repairs, gardening, landscaping, mowing, raking, installing
fences, roofing and putting on siding.
One day of our trip will be spent enjoying the area with
its mining history and natural beauty. The day might include a swim in Lake
Superior (brrr!), and visits to historic buildings, museums or old copper mining
sites.
Cost
$250/person due June 11, 2007 includes food,
transportation, recreation expenses, and a trip t-shirt. Consider sending a
support letter to request prayer and financial support. We will provide
additional information on writing support letters in your confirmation packet. As a group we might attempt a fundraiser, but that could be
challenging considering the geographic distance between team members. If
necessary, scholarships will be available to help with costs.
Cost DOES NOT include meals while traveling or spending
money.
We have 12 – 14 openings available. They will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Application forms are available through the LCMI office. Deadline for
application: May
15, 2007. You will be sent a confirmation letter with more details by May
25, 2007.
