Perfection Jesus said, "Be perfect as I am perfect" (Matthew 5:48). It seems as though this is an impossible goal. We make the assumption that to be perfect is to be like God but we are missing what Jesus was really saying. Divine perfection means we have no struggles, no weaknesses, and no temptations. Jesus wasn't divinely perfect until after His ascension. He was perfectly human while He walked the face of this earth. Being perfectly human means walking victoriously over our struggles, weaknesses and temptations. Jesus did not consider equality with God something to be grasped but He humbled Himself and became a man! If Jesus was willing be a human, then the perfection He is telling us we are to have is not a divine perfection. Therefore, striving for divine perfection is striving to be like God, which is what Satan was striving for. We have a High Priest who understand our struggles! This perfectly human life was the life Jesus demonstrated to us. He was tempted in all things, relied totally on His Father's strength, and walked in victory through all His struggles. The day we accepted Christ, His life entered into us. He dwells in us, and His life is a victorious and perfect life. We have nothing to attain regarding this perfection. Are we willing to be human and embrace His life, or do we want total annihilation of our weaknesses, temptations, and struggles?
