Intimacy
By Mike Rule
One thing the Lord has shown me about ministry is to present what He gives
and then get out of the way. He continues to stress to me that a believer’s
relationship with Him is an intimate thing. God has made it clear to me that I
have no business telling a believer what that intimacy should look like just as
I have no business walking into a married couple’s bedroom and telling them
what their marital intimacy should look like. Just as there are some obvious
things about marital intimacy, so also there are some obvious things about
spiritual intimacy. However, it is not up to me to tell you how to live that
out.
Whenever I speak or write it is not my intention to teach anything, but to
simply affirm what believers already know deep inside. I only desire to minister
to the Christ who dwells within each believer without demanding that things be
sensible and logical to the human mind. We are involved in what is known as
Spirit to Spirit ministry. In other words, the Christ who dwells in us resonates
with Himself in others. Therefore, we are not seeking to offer correct thoughts,
stir proper emotions, or motivate the human will. God directly addressed this in
Romans 12:1-2 when He challenges us to allow our minds to be renewed which in
turn transforms our lives. The point of this passage is not the pursuit of
"correct thinking," but rather to encourage us to embrace Jesus Christ
who dwells within us as His children! When you have Him, you have His mind! It
is NOT our efforts, but the power and presence of Jesus Christ who dwells within
which transforms our thoughts, emotions, and actions. Jesus truly is
enough.
