The
Path
By

For
my 38th birthday my 10-year-old daughter made me a three-layer cake
slathered with chocolate fudge frosting. She
placed large numeral-shaped candles on top to clearly state that this was indeed
birthday number 38. Circumnavigating
the top of the cake, she created a highway in blue icing that made a complete
circle around the candles. She lit
the candles and carried the cake to me along with a little slip of paper that
stated these profound words: “The moral to your cake is: Follow God’s path,
even though it may seem to go nowhere.”
I
cannot help but think of the many times on my journey with Christ where
following His leading seemed to make no sense.
It reminds me of what I wrote last year in the article entitled Senseless.
Yet over and over again I find that we do not follow Him because it is
sensible; we follow because we are His. Because
we know He loves us, we willingly accept that He can do whatever He chooses with
us.
Verses
for Reflection
“God,
who got you started in this spiritual adventure, shares with us the life of his
Son and our Master Jesus. He will never give up on you. Never forget that”.
(1Corinthians 1:9 MSG)
“May
God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and
whole, put you together--spirit, soul, and body--and keep you fit for the coming
of our Master, Jesus Christ. The
One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he'll do it!”
(1 Thessalonians 5:23 & 24)
“The
fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm
foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It's our handle on
what we can't see.” (Hebrews 11:1
MSG)
