The Glory of God
By Mike Rule

I was recently reading Ephesians 1 in the Jewish New Testament. I like the way it says things. It tells us that we "bring Him (Jesus) praise commensurate with His glory." It uses this same phrase in verses 6, 12, and 14.

Where I display my own glory I prevent the revelation of His glory. If I live in my own strength I am displaying my own glory, and my praise of Him is only commensurate with me. At that moment I fall short of His glory! He is not a glory monger but I cannot truly praise Him or see the fullness of His glory when I am displaying my own. My glory is like a filter that blots out His glory.

God only tells us that He wants the Glory because it is what is best for us. He does not need us, but He wants us. He avails Himself to us to bring us to a place of perfect peace. He offers us His glory because it is what is best for us.
