Prayer Of Unbelief

I've noticed lately how often I pray begging God for what He has already given. Here is just one example; "Lord, please be with us ..."

Should I not pray: "Lord, thank You that You are always with us..."?

He clearly told us that He would never leave us or forsake us, yet I so often pray in unbelief. I often miss the power of His promise, and I beg in unbelief for what He has already given. The depth of this staggers me.
