Dependent – Part 2 While in Brazil, I saw the Lord do amazing things in people’s lives. During the first week the Lord brought many people to me for counseling and it was rare that He did not do something to bring people to greater freedom, peace, and joy in Christ. I worked strictly through interpreters, but this in no way inhibited the Spirit as He moved. On the last evening before I was to leave to work in another city, I wanted to phone Becky to catch up on what was happening at home and in the office. Because the long distance option on my room’s phone had been disabled, I had to go to the front desk to have it activated. Try as I might, I could not communicate clearly what I wanted. For nearly fifteen minutes I tried to speak to the clerk through a fellow who knew a fair bit of English, but it was a totally frustrating experience. I finally decided to find another person who knew English better, thinking that would solve the problem. After a quick search I returned to the desk with another fellow to try again. However, it still took another five minutes to communicate that I wanted my telephone’s long distance activated. It took nearly a half-hour to accomplish one simple task! As I was on my way back to my room to make the phone call, I laughed and marveled at the Lord. All week long God had moved powerfully and touched people. Communication had never been an issue or a hindrance. But when it came to something as simple as turning on a phone, I was totally frustrated and helpless. Once again it was a vivid reminder of how apart from Him, I cannot do anything. What a blessing from Him! I praise God for how the simple little things always preach our dependence upon Christ. |
