Contradictions
By Mike Rule
Paul admonishes that husbands should love their wives, and
wives are to respect their husbands. Yet Christ tells us all that
we are to love one another as He has loved us.
Paul tells husbands and wives not to deny each other sexually
except for a time of prayer and fasting, but then to come
together again lest they fall into temptation. He also tells us
to get married if we can't handle being single. He seems to imply
that it's okay to gratify the desires of our flesh as long as we
are married. Yet Christ has told us to deny ourselves, take up
our cross and follow Him.
Scripture seems to be full of contradictions. It is dangerous
to take things out of the context of the greater revelation of
Christ from Genesis to Revelation because we can be lead astray.
Why would God make it that way? He did it to keep us dependent
upon Him alone. His word is perfectly accurate and perfect truth.
Yet, any part taken out of the whole is incomplete by itself. Our
dependency is on Christ and He reveals Himself through His word
in ways that both astound and amaze us. In Him there is no contradiction.
