I Know A Man
By Mike Rule
I know a man was born out of a seemingly scandalous situation.
Few people knew who his father was. He was raised in a simple
home and took up the family business at a very early age. He
didn't make any great career moves and he worked at the same job
for most of his life, never having a lot of material wealth. He
didn't have a great education or an abundance of obvious talent
and ability. All the things we desire for our children he seemed
to lack.
He made a radical change in his life in his early thirties. He
left his family to fend for themselves and started hanging around
with a bunch of rough guys. He began to speak publicly as he
traveled from place to place. He seemed to be very irresponsible
and he didn't do anything to earn his keep. He spent a fair bit
of time with women of questionable reputation and he didn't seem
to care what people might say of him. He talked about God and his
love for humanity. He had no accountability, theological
education or direction. He had no fund raising campaigns, retreat
centers, church buildings or schools. He didn't have any bank
accounts or great admirers. He made a mockery of the things the
church leaders stood for and they hated him. The government was
wary of him, but the common people loved him. They sought him and
flocked around him wherever he went.
If Jesus were to walk this earth today His life would be no
different than it was 2000 years ago. The government would be
wary, He would infuriate religious leaders, and the common people
would love Him. Are we willing to be common?
